HOUSE IN CHICUREO Location: Housing Development Piedra Roja (Chicureo), Santiago de Chile Architect: Enrique Browne Collaborator architect: Enrique c. Browne, Sebastián Morande, Patricio Browne, Davor Pavlovic Photograph : Enrique Browne Site area: 1.012 m2. Constructed area: 338,83 m2. Project date : 2003 - 2004 The house was designed in a site in Chicureo, a valley besides Santiago at the feet of the Andes Mountains, currently in an urbanization process. The site is almost flat with excellent sun exposure and distant views towards east and north. The young family that assigned it asked to make the most of these conditions, plus other items. Amongst these a guest bedroom, a large covered terrace for lunch, kids playing, etc. The house is organized around a “L” shaped wall and another in “C”, both inverted and clad in copper, in which circulation from the access towards the bedroom on one side and towards the dining room and living room on the other side. At the height of the dining room (centre of family life) both paths separate. Whilst the bedrooms continues towards the back of the site on level with the ground, the “C” elevates with a ramp ending at the dining room at half height and the living room elevated in the centre of the site. The higher section accompanies this circular ascending path. The elevation of the living room allows for views of the whole length of the site and views of the distant Andes Mountains landscape to the east and north. At the same time, it covers the terrace asked by the clients.
