REMODELING OFFICES ON HOLLEY STREET (1990) Architect: Enrique Browne, Ricardo Judson Assistants: Isabel Perelló, Verónica Year: 1990 Construction Location: Holley Street N70 Area: 208 sq. . . The project consist in the remodeling of an old house from 1942 that was in very bad conditions. The remodeling was oriented towards metaphorically accentuating the three levels of the house: the ground level (earth), the second level (sky) and the underground level (subterranean): To achieve this, inexpensive planks of undulating zinc were utilized. At the ground level, these undulating longitudinally without touching the walls or the ceilings, as abstract clouds. The solution served besides to hide the beams and to install an economical indirect illumination. A blue overhead light bathed the wall of the termination of this first level, giving the illusion of an horizon. On the second level the “plank-clouds” are fewer, leaving visible the gray – blue ceiling. In the underground level, the planks curved transversally like vaults, giving the image of a tunnel. The three levels are interconnected by a stairway illuminated from above with a yellow light, like a sun penetrating. A tubular red banister seems like a flash of lighting. The walls are painted in white which are painted again by the light in different colors.
