HOUSE IN LA REINA Architects: Enrique Browne Associate Architects: Bernardo Onfray Location: Padre Hurtado Avenue, La Reina - Santiago de Chile Program: House in a plot, five bedrooms, living room - dining room and services Plot Area: 15.000 sq. mt. Constructed Area: 600 sq. mt. Sketch Credits: Bernardo Onfray Date: 1976 The lot is 215 meters long, with an east - west incline. It has magnificent views of the Andes mountains to the east and Santiago to the west. The client desired a house reminiscent of the homes found out in the country. He wanted to use adobe and wood in the construction. The house was set in the middle of the site dividing the lot in two parts. In the acces, which rises towards the house, an oval water tank was designed. This solution is very characteristic of rural houses. This house combines two elements. A “parron” whose partial or total closure produces a varied range of interior and intermediate spaces. This “parron” extends towards both sides of the terrain culminating at one end in a pergola inside the water tank and at the other end, in a water fountain above. The other elements are cubical volumes of adobe that resembles a small town under the “parron”. The volume that corresponds to the living room and dining room crosses it. The house is divided into three areas. At the North the bedrooms are located forming a small interior square to be used as a den. Located in the center of the house is the large volume of the living room and dining room with a library suspended on the second level. More towards the South, the service areas and parking are located.
