VIÑA DEL MAR CLINIC Location: Calle Limache. Viña del Mar, Chile Architects : Enrique Browne and Ricardo Judson Collaborator: Felipe Browne, Clara Guzmán y Christine Filshill Structural Consultants: Harmut Vogel - Rodrigo Mujica y Leopoldo Breschi Site Area: 2.940 m2. Constructed Area: 3.226 m2. Photography Credits: Guy Wenborne, Enrique Browne Date: 1994 The site is in Viña del Mar city and beach resort, adjacent to the railway track that connects Santiago de Chile and Valparaiso port. The building encourages the recovery of the neighborhood and reaffirms its character. A front garden was demanded. This created an isolated building that concurs with Viña’s “Garden City” character. However, this isolation contradicted the continuous street front condition. In order to respond to both factors, a seventy meter long building with two floors was designed. This reinforces Simon Bolivar street and its edges. Furthermore, the building abuts a grassy rise that increases its length and diminishes the protective gates amongst its greenery. The main access occurs at the center of the block. At the corner of Limache street is the Auditorium. In the other corner is located the regional headquarters of the Chilean Chamber of Construction.yt Inside, the Medical Service has a public lobby of about fifty meters long and ten meters tall. It is all white. It has a low window on the eastern side and it has natural illumination above on the west side, which bathes the space with golden light in the afternoon.
